September means kids are back to school, and of course that means that you all have those "first day" pictures to scrap! It also means you'll soon have this year's school photos, along with memorable papers, drawings, and other treasures they bring home. Based on a very old spiral bound book my mom had for each of us, I decided to make a combination photo album and actual school scrapbook, with plenty of room for all the items listed above. It's made with Simple Stories' 'Elementary' paper line, which is a sort of weathered looking, dots, stripes, and flourishes kind of collection. It's got so many stickers and cutouts, all with apples and textbooks, wise old owls and little red schoolhouses.
The album itself measures 5-1/2x8", and is packed as full as the 2" binder rings will hold! There are a DOZEN chipboard tabbed divider pages - not counting the front and back covers - one for each year of grade school through high school! The Simple Stories Elementary collection comes with pre-k and Kindergarten thrown in as well, so you can start your child's story from the very beginning!
You'll have plenty of places to add photos or decorate with the included stickers; journal important memories; record dates, teachers' names, and other annual stats; enclose keepsakes in the roomy 6x9" envelopes (which, by the way, easily hold 8-1/2"x11" papers, folded in half!); and scrap school photos up to 5x7" on the brightly colored carstock pages.
I've designed this album to go together quickly and easily by keeping gluing and time-consuming construction to a minimum. Most of the pages are pre-hole-punched, and are simply placed in the order you desire, and put in the included binder rings. For example, a piece of brightly colored cardstock is included for each year's school picture, and instead of gluing all 14 pieces into the book, they are simply loaded onto the binder rings. There are 2 CUTE chipboard embellishments on the front cover - a pencil and a schoolbus - that require a bit of gluing. Then with some hole-punching, you can load in a card for each grade's stats, then add all the fun stickers you'd like! Then the look is all pulled together with exposed black chipboard, for an old-fashioned blackboard look!
